Tuition fee waiver – conditions and eligibility

Effective from Semester 1, 2025 and onwards

Tuition fee waivers are designed to support eligible students in approved programmes of study. Please read the following conditions carefully, as accepting a tuition fee waiver means you agree to these terms.

Eligibility

  • The tuition fee waiver is available to domestic students (New Zealand citizens and permanent residents, Australian citizens and permanent residents) who are living in New Zealand at the time of study.
  • Students are eligible for one tuition fee waiver per qualification at each NZQF level.
  • Students holding a New Zealand resident’s visa are eligible if you:
    • are admitted to an approved tuition fee waiver programme, and
    • reside in New Zealand while studying.

To confirm your eligibility in this regard, a copy of your international passport and eVisa or visa label must be provided as proof.

Enrolment requirements

  • You must complete your enrolment by the last date to enrol, including payment of the Student Services Fee (students who do not complete enrolment by this date will forfeit their tuition fee waiver).
  • Tuition fee waivers apply only to the programme of admission and are not transferable to another programme, unless expressly approved by the University. This restriction specifically applies to programmes with limited places.

Academic progress

  • To continue receiving a tuition fee waiver, you must successfully complete at least 50% of your enrolled courses each semester.
  • Students who fail or withdraw from more than 50% of their course load in a semester will lose eligibility for future tuition fee waivers.

Withdrawals and deferrals

  • Students who withdraw from a programme after enrolment will forfeit their tuition fee waiver and eligibility for future tuition fee waivers.
  • Repeated deferrals or withdrawals (more than twice) of a tuition fee waiver application will result in loss of future eligibility.

Availability and changes

  • Tuition fee waivers are offered subject to availability.
  • Terms, conditions, and eligibility criteria may change without notice.

Future eligibility

  • Students who pay tuition fees in the first instance may be considered for a tuition fee waiver in a later semester if places become available, provided they meet all eligibility and academic requirements.
