The Sports and Healthy Living Initiative
The purpose of the Sports and Healthy Living Initiative is to maximise sport and active recreation opportunities for Lincoln University students, to ensure their continued health and wellbeing.
Goals
- Increase student participation in sport, active recreation and promote inclusion and an enhanced student experience
- Support teams and individuals through travel, coaching, mentoring, field trips and participation opportunities
- Promote new sporting codes and minority sporting opportunities at Lincoln University
- Support minority sporting and recreational activities
- Support wellbeing and active healthy living programmes
- Provide opportunities for adventure and experimental learning
- Support other activities aligned with the Initiative’s charitable purposes that foster connection, inclusion and diversity
Donations supporting this Initiative are held by the Lincoln University Foundation and applied strictly towards the Initiative’s goals and charitable purposes. A committee oversees the Initiative, including reviewing applications, determining eligibility, and allocating funding to appropriate activities. The committee reserves the right to decline, review and amend decisions at its discretion.
Who can apply
- Lincoln University student groups or clubs
- Individual Lincoln University students
- Lincoln University sports clubs
- Lincoln University staff or student representatives
What funding can be used for
The Initiative can support a range of activities, including (but not limited to):
- Activities that increase student participation in sport and active recreation
- Initiatives that promote inclusion and enhance the student experience
- Equipment and uniform purchases (to be stored on campus unless otherwise agreed)
- Resources required to administer activities or support participation (including travel where appropriate)
Selection criteria
Applications will receive stronger consideration where they:
- Clearly align with the goals of the Initiative
- Benefit a broad range of students
- Support students from underrepresented or minority groups
- Encourage inclusion and participation
- Develop new opportunities or activities for students
Activities that are not supported by the initiative:
The Initiative will generally not fund:
- Business-as-usual sports club expenses
- High-performance, professional or semi-professional sport
- Club fees, registration or affiliation costs
- Activities not primarily benefiting Lincoln University students
- Alcohol-related expenses
- Retrospective funding requests
Application process
Two funding rounds will be available each year.
Application dates:
- 31 March
- 31 August
Applicants are limited to one application per individual, group, or club per calendar year.
Applications must be received by 5pm on the closing date, including all required documentation and any additional information requested.

The committee will meet within ten days of the closing date. Applicants will be notified of the outcome within two weeks of the meeting.

| Hunting Club | PLB, radio and first aid kit. |
| Iconic Club (Disability Club) | Pool entry plus transport to Selwyn Aquatic Centre |
| International and Cultural Society | For either a coach or food to run futsal, (Futsal equipment funded through Whare Hākinakina). |
| Parent Society | Exercise classes. Trial for one semester rather than whole year. |
| Tramping and Climbing Club | 1k for climbing shoes and $400 for O week event, shoes to be kept at reception. |
| Waterpolo Club | Water polo cap set; water polo balls; ball bag; entries x10 and water polo togs (women’s) x10. |
| Whare Hākinakina Frisbee Golf | Frisbees to play disc golf. |
| Whare Hākinakina Futsal | Futsal equipment. For international and cultural society (and others) to play futsal. |
