What you will learn

After successfully completing this course, you’ll be able to: 

  1. Critically discuss theory and practice associated with disaster risk reduction and resilience.
  2. Identify and explain the important interactions between social, economic, bio-physical, environmental and cultural processes and issues associated with risk and resilience.
  3. Conduct independent research and participate in group discussions and debates.
  4. Locate, evaluate and apply information and data from a variety of sources.
  5. Show your appreciation and recognition of gender, cultural, ethnicity and equity perspectives and issues.
  6. Demonstrate your commitment to professional and ethical behaviour standards, based on knowledge of professional ethics and codes of conduct.
  7. Recognise Aotearoa-New Zealand’s bi-cultural mandate, multi-cultural society and outline the implications for risk and resilience policy and planning practice.
  8. Display effective time-management abilities.
