Withdrawals and Refunds
For each teaching period, there is a specific date after which you can withdraw from study but are not entitled to a refund of fees.
Withdrawing from courses or study
We know that plans can change, and sometimes you might not be able to finish the courses you’re enrolled in. At Lincoln, there’s no option to defer or put courses on hold, so if you can’t continue, you’ll need to formally withdraw. This is important to avoid receiving fail grades or possible academic sanctions.
Key dates and refund rules
Refund period
Each semester and summer school has a set deadline to drop courses with a refund. If you withdraw within this time, the course won’t appear on your academic record. (Note: shorter courses may have different dates. Check the Key Dates or Lincoln University Calendar).
After the refund date
You can still withdraw, but fees are not refunded. You’ll receive a WDN grade on your transcript, this won’t affect your GPA.
How to withdraw
Withdrawing from one or some courses
You can usually do this yourself in LUCAS → Enrol tile → Drop Course tab.
If you get an error, please email withdraw@lincoln.ac.nz for assistance.
Completely withdrawing from study for a semester (or longer)
Please complete the Withdrawal Form. If you’re on campus, you’re also welcome to come and talk to our Admission & Enrolment team on the first floor of the Forbes Building.

Please refer to the International Student Tuition Refund Policy and always check in with the International Student Advisor before withdrawing. The Student Finance team can also advise you about possible insurance refunds.

Accommodation
If you’re living in Lincoln University accommodation, please remember to let the Accommodation team know about your withdrawal. Email the Accommodation team at: accomm@lincoln.ac.nz
