This lesson gets students to explore the concept of a “dream home” and contrast emotional design with practical features that support health and energy efficiency.

Starter activity

Design a dream home and choose three words to describe how it should feel. Discuss the difference between emotional appeal and a healthy home.

Main activities

  • Compare two house diagrams (House A and B).
  • Identify features related to heat sources, moisture control, and insulation.
  • Use visual markers (arrows, droplets, highlighters) to show heat flow and moisture.
  • Complete a true/false quiz on housing features.
  • Evaluate which home is warmer and justify.
  • Recommend one expensive upgrade and several low-cost improvements for a healthier home.
